Through our unique Special Operations Forces programs (ICP and comBHat) Home Base has served more 350 SOF members, 85% participants were active duty at the time of their treatment, with 95% return to duty rate.
Home Base has bridged a gap in resources by creating a clinical program catering to the unique needs of Families of the Fallen, ensuring the Families of our Heroes are never forgotten.

Traumatic Brain Injury Under-Recognized as a Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease
“This review is a clarion call to conduct better assessments and earlier intervention for survivors of TBI who may have increased cardiovascular risk. It calls for new or expanded datasets that capture, over time, changes in biomarkers and targets associated with cardiovascular disease,” said corresponding author Ross Zafonte, DO, President of Spaulding Rehabilitation Network and Chief of the Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Zafonte is also the principal investigator of the Football Players Health Study at Harvard. “There is a growing recognition that many systems interact to produce multilevel dysfunction after TBI, with a series of nuanced comorbidities. Clinicians can begin to treat some of these conditions, and in the future, management guidelines can more directly address the cardiovascular health of TBI survivors.”

Home Base continues to build depth into outdated clinical models that combine state of the art treatment with technology back by Mass General and Harvard expertise.
Virtual reality (VR) technology offers Home Base a unique opportunity for clinicians to bend reality in order to make possible the impractical to augment treatment protocols for their patients. Specifically, treatment protocols can be tailored to address the individual needs of each patient and can often bring relief in less time than in real-life treatments with the same goals. VR does not replace the role of the therapist, instead, it enhances the power of the clinical strategies therapists have to address their patients’ needs.
In 2017, the FDA designated MDMA as a breakthrough therapy for PTSD and a year later granted the same status to psilocybin as a breakthrough therapy for treatment-resistant depression. Home Base has launched two trials with the MGH Center for the Neuroscience of Psychedelics, led by Dr. Jerry Rosenbaum, Chief Emeritus of MGH Department of Psychiatry and Chair at Harvard Medical School. Home Base is building dedicated research space for the study of psychedelics in our new expansion here at our National Center of Excellence.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is FDA-approved for treatment of treatment of depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems. Currently, it is being used to personalize treatment by influencing disrupted brain circuits in a variety of disorders. There is clinical research for Deep TMS into new therapy areas including PTSD and chronic pain syndromes. Deep TMS uses flexible coils embedded in a patient and operator-friendly helmet to non-invasively activate targeted brain structures, allowing deeper and broader stimulation than traditional coils, resulting in greater activation of neurons combined with powerful efficacy.
We partner with national experts in shock therapy to provide this solution to the Special Operations Community regularly at no cost.

Each year, the NSF Patriot Award is awarded to an individual, group, or organization that has made significant contributions to the advancement of our nation and its citizens while exemplifying the ideals and ethos of the SEAL community that NSF serves.
The Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service – the second-highest award presented by the Secretary of Defense – was presented to Tom Werner, Chairman of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Red Sox Foundation, in April 2021. The Public Service Commendation Medal – the fourth-highest public service decoration in the U.S. Department of the Army – was awarded to Michael Allard, Chief Operating Officer for Home Base, and members of the Home Base Board of Overseers. Each recipient received their award, presented by then Army Chief of Staff General Jim McConville, during a ceremony at the Pentagon.
